Credentialing

Carelon Behavioral Health credentialing, including former Beacon networks

Carelon Behavioral Health, formerly Beacon Health Options, manages mental health benefits for many health plans. The behavioral network is often a different enrollment from the medical plan on the member card. This page is that enrollment, not a general credentialing pitch.

What we handle

  • Identify whether Carelon administers the behavioral benefit for the plans your clients carry
  • Provider application, CAQH alignment, and practice-location details
  • Group roster adds for new clinicians
  • Follow-up until the clinician is approved, denied, or waitlisted
  • Correct payer IDs passed to billing so the first claim is not sent to the medical plan by mistake

How this differs from UnitedHealthcare and Optum

Optum is a separate network with its own application. Carelon shows up on employer and Medicaid plans that never mention Optum. If the card says the medical plan but behavioral claims route to Carelon, enrolling only the medical payer will not get therapy visits paid.

Frequently asked questions

We used to be enrolled with Beacon. Do we start over?+

Sometimes the legacy enrollment carries, and sometimes Carelon asks for an update. We check the current provider record before submitting a new application.
